Why breakfast is important

Updated: Apr 22

As we can not bear starve ourselves for more than 6 hours during day time then why do we allow it to happen during night time by avoiding breakfast !!!!

Well, our body is a machine and like all machines it requires energy to function itself. Even moving your eyeballs or closing eyelids require certain amount of energy. Our body is 24 x 7 x 365 operating machine and hence its energy requirement is also for 24 x 7 x 365. Ideally one digestion cycle takes 4-6 hours and hence body needs energy replenishment every 4-6 hours. With internal storage body manages the energy requirement even though the replenishment comes bit later than 6 hours.

Ideally one digestion cycle takes 4-6 hours and hence body needs energy replenishment every 4-6 hours. By doing some internal storage, body manages the energy requirement even though the replenishment comes bit later than 6 hours....

However when we sleep, there is no top up of energy stores for 6-8 hours. On top of that if we avoid breakfast and opt for eating during lunch time only, the gap between energy replenishments go beyond 12 hours !!!!

If skipping breakfast is becoming a norm rather than exception then

body goes for a defence mechanism and start storing more energy in terms of Glycogen and IMTGs as emergency fuels. Further, body also reduces the energy consumption by slowing down activities and one can feel sluggishness, lethargy, lack of concentration during day to day activities.

Long term impacts of not having breakfasts are not good and can lead to various issues. Hence, it is always advised to have a proper breakfast at proper time to remain Fit, Cheerful and Energetic throughout the day.

We will discuss, what is an ideal breakfast in next article.
